A tragic accident occurred this morning in Plaza Ramón Castilla, also known as Plaza Unión, in Cercado de Lima, when an unidentified person was hit by an army truck that occupied the exclusive lane of the Metropolitano.
The collision that occurred at the intersection of Alfonso Ugarte and Argentina streets caused the immediate death of the victim.
According to witnesses consulted by the RPP, the military vehicle deviated from its lane and traveled along the exclusive lane of the Metropolitano, overtaking the man who was crossing the track at the time.
The driver of the truck, identified as Condo Dueñas Alfre, was arrested and taken to the local police station to proceed with the relevant legal proceedings. Eight soldiers were traveling in the truck, but it was reported that none of them were injured.
The Urban Transport Authority (ATU) expresses its regret for what happened and issued a statement in which it recalled that the occupation of the exclusive route of the Metropolitano constitutes a serious violation, punishable by a fine of 428 soles and 20 points on the driver’s card .
ATU emphasized that this road is exclusively intended for Metropolis buses and that only emergency vehicles, such as ambulances, patrols and firefighting units, can use it in emergency situations and with lights and sirens on.
