The long process that could lead to the recognition by the Catholic Church of a new Argentine saint has taken its first steps with the publication of a decree that begins the process of “beatification and canonization” of the religious Cecilia María de la Santa Faz. Born on December 5, 1973 in San Martín de los Andes (Neuquén), as Cecilia María Sánchez Sorondo Bosch, she changed her religious name when she entered the Discalced Carmelite Monastery in the city of Santa Fe in 1997.
Cecilia María’s life was characterized by dedication and devotion to faith from an early age. The daughter of Colonel Santiago Sánchez Sorondo and María Teresa Bosch Seeber, her family moved around the country due to her father’s military duties. At the age of 17, he completed his secondary studies at a Catholic school in Buenos Aires, where he deepened his knowledge of religious history and his vocation.
In 1997, at the age of 24, she entered the Monastery of the Discalced Carmelites in Santa Fe, where she took vows of obedience, chastity and poverty. Throughout his monastic life, he was noted for his strong but always smiling character, as well as his ability to play the violin during liturgies.
