Alleged medical negligence at EsSalud: Three patients undergo cataract surgery and end up without one eye

Tragedy and irresponsibility in Loreto. In Hospital III Iquitos of EsSalud, five people went cataract surgery in session, but three of them had to submit removing his eyes due to complications in the process. Ophthalmologist Adriana Anglica Lozano Arcani is being criticized for suspicions medical negligence.

According to the latest versions of Peru 21, patients were contracted severe infections in appearance, apparently due to a hospital bacterium, to which they have been referred Rebagliati Hospital in the city of Lima. Specialists noticed the same disease in all five patients.

“Lita Rengifo Flores, Csar Vela Cometivos, Jorge Poquiama Woo, Rolando Escobedo Rojas and Olinda Lozano de Chunga presented strong irritations in their eyes after their surgery,” the aforementioned media reported. Unfortunately, specialists had to remove an eye from three patients to save their lives.

The case has caused shock in Loreto and throughout Peru. For this reason, EsSalud spoke about this issue, indicating that following relevant protocols for cases with such a bad outcome.

“We reiterate our solidarity with our policyholders and their families, we deeply regret what happened and are taking immediate measures to ensure their recovery and to determine the appropriate responsibilities,” he said through his account. X (formerly Twitter).

Likewise, they specify that it forms a Technical Committee to issue a final report as soon as possible. For their part, specialists have formed a medical audit to apply corrective measures who should be punished.

EsSalud confirmed, without naming names, that the officials responsible for the surgical process at Hospital III Iquitos have been separated immediately and definitively of the health center. At the moment, the families of those affected have been offered comprehensive support to provide them with professionals emotional support, orientation y other aspects important.

“We reaffirm our commitment to the affected patients, who are receiving specialized and priority medical care at the Edgardo Rebagliati Martins National Hospital. We guarantee rigorous monitoring and the application of the most appropriate treatments for their speedy recovery”, concluded EsSalud.
