Amazon Web Services (AWS) organizes an annual international event where it shows what’s new for the coming year. In this AWS re:Invent 2024 – which takes place in Las Vegas (USA) -, the Amazon company dedicated to Cloud Computing surprised with several announcements, with which it seeks to make clear its leadership not only in cloud services, but also in matters of artificial intelligence.
During the first day of this event, there was an announcement that stood out among others. The launch of The new Amazona family of artificial intelligence models, with different versions, functionalities and performances that promise to adapt to the needs of each user. This announcement was made by Matt Garman, in his first conference as CEO of Amazon.

Amazon’s ChatGPT?
With a name that evokes innovation, it was introduced Amazon Nova. This is a set of basic models. And what are these? They are deep learning neural networks that, instead of creating artificial intelligence from scratch, use these models as a starting point “Develop machine learning models that drive new applications quickly and cost-effectively”as determined by the same company. Basically, they are able to understand language, generate text and images, and converse in natural language.
Amazon Nova is a whole family of these basic models that are developed for multimodal tasks (text, image and video), but with industry-leading price efficiency performance.
This is an example of what can be done with the new basic model launched by Amazon, the Nova Canvas.

The family includes other models:
- Nova Microa text-only model that is focused on speed and low cost that offers low latency;
- Nova Litewhich also offers speed in image, video and text processing, also at a low cost;
- Nova Prowhich combines accuracy, speed and cost for a wide range of tasks;
- Nova Premierintended for complex reasoning tasks. All are optimized to work in 15 languages.
Is comparing Nova to ChatGPT an exaggeration? The same company claims that its performance is equal or better in 85% of the measurements when compared to tools such as ChatGPT -4.

But in addition, AWS has other models such as New canvas y Nova Reelwhich are aimed at creating professional quality images and videos. These templates offer multilingual support and are optimized for business applications.
Nova models are already integrated into Amazon Base, a platform where they find different basic models for unified use.
Apple support
During the event’s ‘keynote’, a guest appeared that no one expected: Apple. It was Benoit Dupin, senior director of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence at Apple, who took the stage at the Venetian Hotel convention center in Las Vegas to support AWS in its competition against Microsoft and Google in the Cloud Computing market.

Dupin – who previously worked at Amazon – explained how Apple uses various AWS services and the key role it plays within Apple Intelligence.
Given that many other releases were also made at this ReInvent 2024 – notably new processors and specialized software to improve performance, efficiency and energy consumption in artificial intelligence projects, Dupin mentioned on behalf of Apple how they already are using much of this news in the various processes they follow for the development of their artificial intelligence proposition.
