Santiago, June 26, 2025. In the context of the current electoral process, the Archbishop of Santiago, Cardinal Fernando Chomali, held a meeting with candidates and candidates for the Presidency of the Republic, depending on the archival of Santiago, in order to promote a civic culture based on respect, dialogue and commitment to the good good.
During the meeting, cardinal gave to each participant a Open in which he values his public service profession and encourages them to guide the principles, vision of the country and a sense of responsibility against future generations. The letter underlines the educational role of the electoral process and suggests that elections should be “a master class for humanity and civic culture”.
Marco Enriquez-Oominami, Johannes Kaiser, Jeanette Jara, Jaime Mulat, Evelyn Matthei, Ximena Rincón, Carolina Tohá and Gonzalo Winter were present at the event. In addition to candidates and candidates, presidents and representatives of the political parties who participated in the election process also attended the meeting.
“The first thing I did to them is that political activity is important and necessary because it deals with the common good. I wish them on this adventure they have undertaken, and I told them they have us, in the sense of evaluating public things, because what is in question is the usual good,” said Cardinal Chomali. “I also told them that it is essential to promote civic education in education and that they are an important factor to promote a culture of meeting and dialogue. We must end this spirit of tension that damages society,” he added at the end of the meeting.
