With music
Music and the senses also have their place in the form of a nightclub where you can dance to the rhythm of Bon Jovi, Gloria Gaynor, The Monkees or Abba. After that, visitors will have the opportunity to discover what happiness smells like, which tastes give us a better sense of well-being or which factors are most important when it comes to finding wealth in the form of gold bars.
“The idea of the Museum of Happiness was born in the pandemic, with an internet search by our director, Pablo Claver, who realized that there is only one museum dedicated to happiness and it is in Copenhagen. So, for happiness to reach more people, they decided to have a Museum of Happiness in Madrid,” explained the general coordinator of the museum, Laura Fernández.
“One technique that helps increase happiness, and that I personally do, is to try in every way to welcome everyone with a smile, even if it’s a bad day,” Fernández said.
“It’s something nice, like doing things for the first time that we haven’t done or having acts of kindness like opening a door or saying goodbye to people who have served us with a ‘thank you’ looking them in the eye. “Having an act of kindness towards someone you don’t know,” he added.
The museum, located in Ronda de Valencia, is spread over four large areas and more than 20 immersive experiences designed so that the general public can rediscover happiness with a tour of the History and Geography of Happiness, The Risódromo, the Laboratory of Happiness, The Space of Happiness Beyond Money and the Happy Magic Show. The facilities, whose doors “open only to those who show a big smile”, have already received around 30,000 visitors since the museum opened on 29 September.
An opportunity to learn, with evidence and scientific rigor, what generates the most happiness for human beings in a super fun, entertaining and 100% immersive way.
“It’s very interesting that people come with medium-low predisposition, who come for a little bit and see what they find and when they leave they are very grateful because they say hey, well, I came in on a very low day, but I came out of here super strengthened, super happy and thankful that I came, because I needed it”, emphasized the museum coordinator.
flying on a dragon
Among the museum’s most popular experiences are the Truth Closet, which allows visitors to reflect on the people around them who contribute to their happiness; Risódromo, a cabin in which laughter therapy or the Happy Slide is practiced that takes you back to childhood and the first times of anyone who descends in his ball pool.
Another of the Museum of Happiness’ big attractions is the Magical Journey with the Glasses of Happiness experience, which offers those equipped with virtual reality equipment a tour of Thomas More’s utopian city.
“As for virtual reality glasses, I can say that those who enjoy them the most are the elderly. When there’s a grandparent in the groups and they sit here to see what happens when they put the glasses on, it’s a very exciting moment because it’s really the first time they’ve had an experience like this,” Laura. Fernandez recalled excitedly.
“But not only adults, but also children live the experience in a unique and special way. For example, that girl is now flying on the back of a dragon,” he said.
This unique happiness training space goes beyond its Denmark-based name and is committed to providing the public with recreational but also educational experiences to understand the role that brain chemistry plays when it comes to researching happiness.
The mural
Happiness is a state by which human beings feel pleasurable physical and mental satisfaction and is a fundamental goal. So much so that since 2013, the United Nations celebrates the International Day of Happiness every March 20 in recognition of the role that happiness plays in the lives of people around the world.
In fact, the museum has a large mural that proves this theory, and in which visitors can write on a note all the things that they believe bring them joy or happiness.
“Friends”, “going with my family to new places”, “laughing with my sister” or “a passionate kiss” are just some of the messages that contain hundreds of small notes that Madrid residents and visitors have left in this hall special. ‘ of happiness.
“There is no excuse not to come and take time to be happy, because we will welcome those who come with the best smiles and a super big hug so they can soak in the happiness and leave here much happier and much more. wiser”, concludes the coordinator, Laura Fernández.
