The dental profession came together to raise thousands of pounds to help get a charity mobile clinic back on the road.
Dentaid Dental Charity appealed for help after one of its mobile dental clinics was damaged by a third party.
The unit was badly damaged in January 2023 – but after work was finally completed in August, third-party insurers refused to pay the bill.
She told Dentaid that she will no longer process the claim as it is not covered by the third party insurance they carry.
It helps the most vulnerable
On its fundraising page, the charity said: “We are starting the legal process to try and resolve this. But we urgently need this vehicle on the road as we have a full program of clinics helping some of the most vulnerable in our society.’
More than £8,500 was raised to fund the repairs in just a few days – and now the clinic is back on the road.
We did it! Thanks to a combination of offline and online donations, we will be able to get our damaged dental charity unit back on the road. Thanks to all the individuals and companies who supported us with this unusual and unexpected appeal for help. #Thank you pic.twitter.com/7v4yhP6QkI

Andy Evans, CEO of Dentaid The Dental Charity, said: “We are very grateful to all the individuals and companies who responded to our urgent and unusual appeal for help. Thanks to their support we will be able to get this charity dental unit back on track where it is most needed.
“This was a very unexpected situation and we are pursuing insurance and seeking legal advice.
“However, in the meantime, thanks to the success of this appeal, we will be able to use the vehicle again for our clinics that provide care on the ground to the most vulnerable people in our communities.
“As a charity we rely on the dental profession’s support for volunteers, fundraising and support and we were delighted at how quickly people responded to help us in this situation – thank you to everyone.”
