Chancellor Elmer Schialer reaffirmed that, for the Peruvian government, opposition leader Edmundo González “He is the elected president of Venezuela”a difference that – he assured – President Dina Boluarte communicated to him in the dialogue they had the day before.

“It is on purpose that I have said that Edmundo González Urrutia is the elected president, because in fact that is how we consider him,” he said in an exclusive interview in Expanding news.

“It is clear to us that the National Electoral Council (CNE) Venezuela is the only entity that can announce the winning candidates and this is what we continue to maintain. No one can arrogate to himself that power. But what they cannot take from us, as from any other country or from any citizen, is the power to know, to see someone as something that knows who they are. And this for Peru Edmundo González Urrutia: He is the elected president of Venezuela“, he declared.

In this sense, the Minister of Foreign Affairs was firm, emphasizing that if Nicolas Maduro was sworn in as President of Venezuela on January 10, he would be considered by the Peruvian government as a dictator.

“Undoubtedly, he is an autocrat. Until January 10, its legal period ends, let’s say, constitutionally legal. Let’s call it that. But since that day, for Peru, he is no longer a legitimately elected president. We do not recognize the victory declared by CNE“, held.

Schialer said that in the conversation he had with González and opposition leader María Corina Machado, President Dina Boluarte reiterated the Peruvian government’s “unwavering support.”

The position of the Peruvian government

At another time, the chancellor considered that the solution to the crisis in Venezuela It cannot pass through “direct or indirect” intervention from outside.

“This solution that the international community supports must be, must be truly Venezuelan. There can be no direct or indirect foreign interference. “Peru does not accept this,” he noted.

The minister announced that tonight he will travel to Panamawhere he will hold a meeting with other foreign ministers from the region, “to see what are the next steps we will take as an international community”.

Finally, he confirmed that he will accompany President Dina Boluarte to Davos, to participate in World Economic Forumwhich will take place between January 20 and 24.
