Social Health Insurance (Essalud) has issued a statement on the case of five people, of whom three lost their sight and two are under observation, after undergoing cataract surgery two weeks ago at Hospital III in. IquitosLoreto region.

Essalud reported that the immediate separation of the officials responsible for the surgery service of the hospital in question has been ordered.

Moreover, after learning about this it is claimed medical negligence, A Technical Committee was created that in a short period of time “will issue a final report. Corrective measures are being adopted and relevant sanctions will be applied, in accordance with current regulations. At the same time, a medical check-up was initiated.”

Regarding the families of those affected, Essalud emphasized that they are providing comprehensive support, providing emotional support, constant guidance and the necessary conditions for their well-being throughout the process of medical care.

In this sense, “we reaffirm our commitment to the affected patients, who are receiving specialized and priority medical care at the Edgardo Rebagliati Martins National Hospital”.

Family members denounce the doctor

Family members of the patients emphasize that the doctor Adriana Angélica Lozano Arcani is responsible for not following proper health protocols.

Among the victims are nurse Lita Rengifo Flores (66), César Vela Cometivos, Jorge Poquiama Woo, Rolando Escobedo Rojas and Olinda Lozano de Chunga.
