Despite the accusations of fraud and repression that the regime Nicolas Maduro has installed in Venezuela to stop mobilizations against him, a large sector of the left in Peru supports the takeover of the Venezuelan dictator and refuses to recognize the government of Dina Boluarte as the elected leader of that country Edmundo González Urrutia.

For example, in the last two days, the bench of Peru Libre – which is clandestinely controlled by the former regional governor of Junín Vladimir Cerrón – issued two statements in support of Maduro. In the first, he criticizes the stance of the Boluarte Zegarra administration in support of the Venezuelan opposition leader.

“From the bench of Peru Libre we reject the position of the Dina Boluarte regime and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who engaged in undiplomatic actions that embarrass the country before the international community, recognizing and meeting with the losing candidate Edmundo Gonzales Urrutia; carrying out what they have always denounced: interference in the internal affairs of another country, violation of the sovereignty and free self-determination of the people”, emphasized the group of pencils.

Cerronism also expressed “full support for the Bolivarian revolution” and the start of Maduro’s third consecutive term.

“This, despite the international tour instigated by the extreme right, under the command of Edmundo Gonzales, with the aim of interfering with the inauguration ceremony of the legitimately constituted president and destabilizing the democracy, peace and tranquility of our brother country Venezuela. he added.

In the second statement, the group of pencils, invited to the ceremony in Caracas, demanded respect for the sovereignty and free self-determination of the Venezuelan people.

Precisely, Bertha Rojas, the mother of the fugitive Vladimir Cerrón and activist of Peru Libre, participates in the World Anti-Fascist Festival “For a new world”, which is taking place in Caracas in the framework of activities for the seizure of power by Maduro.

El Comercio reported that Perú Libre received the invitation from the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) – which controls the Chavista leadership – to participate in the launch of Maduro’s third government.

From Together for Peru, congressman Roberto Sánchez said “it is a mistake” that Peru has recognized González Urrutia as the president-elect of Venezuela “without any public institution of the Venezuelan electoral system supporting him”. He added that his party respects the self-determination of peoples and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.

“Trying to solve a country’s democracy by taking a position (in favor of) a candidate (like González) no longer seems congruent (…) Finally, this government (that of Boluarte) is not exactly the most suitable. to demand respect for democratic rules from other countries, when there is a wooden knife inside it”, he said in the communication with El Comercio.

“There is no 100% clean electoral process”

Parliamentarian Jaime Quito, from the Socialist group, said, in his personal capacity, that Venezuela should solve its internal problems and should allow other countries to participate in them. “I’m very suspicious that Boluarte and the chancellor are obeying orders from the United States to determine some incursions into Caracas,” he said.

In dialogue with El Comercio, Quito indicated that Maduro is the president-elect of Venezuela and downplayed complaints of electoral fraud against the dictator.

“I believe that every election process has some difficulties, there is no 100% clean election process. There have been concerns in Venezuela, but the electoral bodies of that country have declared Maduro the winner”, he emphasized.

Through him “They would have already shot him in protest”.

“Don’t you remember that 2 years ago they supported the massacre of 18 brothers from Punoja. “They have no morals, their hands are covered in blood,” added Flores, who deleted his tweet after a few minutes.

This newspaper tried to communicate with parliamentarian Sigrid Bazán, founder of Nuevo Peru and member of the bench of the Popular Democratic Bloc, but she did not respond to our messages.

Ronald Atencio, secretary general of Voces del Pueblo (a group Congressman Guillermo Bermejo has already registered), said his party does not share Peru’s position on recognizing González because “the constitutional and democratically elected president in Venezuela is Nicolás Maduro.” .

“The chancellor and the Peruvian government violate the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries by trying to hold talks with people who are not elected,” he said.

The lawyer asserted that the country has a diverse agenda with Venezuela, such as migration.

“That being the case, dealing with these and other state issues can only be done with real governments and not with imaginary people imposed by the agenda of North American imperialism,” he said.

For her part, Anahí Durand, former minister of women in the Pedro Castillo government and founder of the APU party, noted that her group “is against the intervention of the United States and its Latin American satellites, such as the usurping government of Dina Boluarte, determined to ignore “the sovereign decision of the Venezuelan people”.

APU, the group in which former Prime Minister Aníbal Torres is also registered and is in the process of registration, rejected, through a statement, “the new attempt to destabilize Venezuelan institutions and we condemn the criminal blockade that Washington imposes against citizenship”.

The left-wing party also welcomed the “new management” of Maduro, whom they described as the “constitutional president of Venezuela”.

“Venezuela has the right to live in peace and follow its own political model,” the group concluded.

Mabel Huertas, managing partner of 50 plus 1, said she is not surprised that the Peruvian left, which she described as “archaic,” is taking a stand in favor of Maduro.

“These parties have never condemned the Maduro government and have never condemned the clear violation of human rights exercised by the dictatorship,” he said in communication with El Comercio.

The journalist pointed out that Perú Libre shares the “values” of a corrupt system like the one installed in Caracas. “Let’s not forget that anyone who supports the dictatorship is a fugitive from Peruvian justice (Vladimir Cerrón),” he said.

Political analyst Luis Benavente asserted that the position of Peruliberism and other left-wing parties, some of them with high representation in the 2021 elections, “is a demonstration of the lack of democratic vocation.”

“Not only are they supporting a fraud, but also a dictator who is accused of crimes, which has impoverished Venezuela and generated the displacement of 8 million Venezuelans. Many of them live in situations of extreme poverty and are victims of human trafficking. Maduro is responsible for all this,” he said.

In a dialogue with this newspaper, the director of the consulting firm Vox Populi indicated that it is unfortunate that a large sector of the Peruvian left goes against “a global trend”, noting that many democratic countries, including Chile, the president of to whom Gabriel Boriç is left. – have rejected the continuation of Chavismo in power.

“It is good that they have exposed their position and that Peru recognizes them, the country wants democracy and not the terrible things that are happening in Venezuela,” he added.

The Director of the Public Opinion Research Center (CIOP) of the University of Piura, Fernando Huamán Flores, stated that the crisis in Venezuela is not only a problem of the right and the left, but also of the legitimacy of a government.

“Therefore, the democrats, whether on the right or the left, must join the questions that the international community has asked the Maduro regime. “Chile, which has a left-wing government, has called for attention, after the evidence that the opposition has shown the world the frauds in the electoral process of Venezuela,” he told this newspaper.

Huamán estimated that the fact of not distancing himself from the Chavista dictatorship could affect Perú Libre and other left-wing parties in the run-up to the 2026 elections.
