This Friday morning, a multiple crash at Panamericana SurINTER Atokongo Bridges y Alipio, It left five people injured and caused traffic on the road. The images recorded by several witnesses showed the extent of the emergency that mobilized the personnel of the Fire Department and the National Police (PNP).

According to the information provided by RPP news, a black car was wrecked after being hit from the front and back by two heavy vehicles. The incident occurred when the truck in front braked suddenly, causing the car to collide with it. The collision continued with other vehicles traveling in the same lane, which caused a chain of collisions.

The images circulating on social networks show the moment of desperation of some Textigo drivers, who got out of their vehicles to help the injured.

Preliminary information indicates that inside the black car, the most affected person in the five-way accident was an elderly man with his son. Both survived the impact and were taken to a nearby clinic, along with three other injured people, to receive the necessary emergency medical assistance.

Firefighters and police officers are at the scene to start the relevant procedures. It was also reported that Rutas de Lima personnel arrived after several hours to begin clearing the affected lane.

The accident caused a traffic jam on the highway. While the relevant authorities carried out their official duties, the north-south lane was deactivated, creating a traffic jam in the area. Drivers had to take alternate routes while Lima Routes personnel worked to clear the road.

A few hours later, traffic was restored to that lane, albeit partially while work in the area was completed. At the time of writing, one of the hit trucks remains on the road, while the others have already left the area.

Peru’s alarming road safety crisis continues to take a tragic toll. A total of 3,038 people lost their lives in 2,552 traffic accidents that occurred on the country’s roads from January 1 to December 26, according to data from the Division for the Prevention and Investigation of Road Accidents (Divpiat).

Among accidents, fatal accidents were the leading cause, with 850 cases, followed by confusion (652 incidents) and rollovers (541). In addition, hits and runs totaled 255 times.

According to a report by the Peruvian Association of Insurance Companies (Apeseg), between January and September alone, Lima topped the list of regions with the highest number of fatal accidents, with 370 deaths, followed by Cusco (182) and Piura (169). . . Junín, Arequipa, Cajamarca and Puno are also among the worst affected regions, with more than 100 victims each.
