FRENCHTOWN TWP. – Pinnacle Dental Group dentist Dr. Dawlat Hasso and dental assistant Meredyth McLaughlin recently received lifesaving awards from Monroe Community Ambulance.
Hasso and McLaughlin were given the awards for their efforts to perform CPR on an unresponsive patient while at the clinic until paramedics arrived and took him to ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. He recovered at the hospital and has been released, according to a press release.
On August 7, 2023, MCA was dispatched to a 911 call at the dental office on North Macomb Street. According to the release, they were responding to a call about a man who was unconscious and receiving CPR. Upon arrival, paramedics and Frenchtown Fire Department personnel found a 91-year-old man in cardiac arrest and receiving CPR from staff members.
Advanced life support techniques and procedures were used before transporting the patient to the hospital. As a result of their immediate life-saving actions, Hasso and McLaughlin were presented with awards on October 12.

“We had completed the fillings and let the patient sit for a moment. While Doc went to do an exam, I went into another room to start X-rays on another patient,” McLaughlin said. “When Doc went back into the room to polish the fillings, I heard him say his name being trying to get his attention.”
McLaughlin returned to the room and saw that the patient was unconscious and they began performing CPR.
“To me, it’s just another day on the job. It’s instinct. We’re in the medical field. That’s what we’re trained to do,” McLaughlin said. “We had the front desk call EMS and we continued doing compressions for about 8-10 minutes before EMS got there and they took over.”
McLaughlin said it was humbling and touching when the patient’s daughter came into the office to say, “Thank you.”
“We’re so glad he was able to be in our care when this happened,” she said.
