Police shoot a man in the head

A scene of extreme violence rocked the neighborhood of El Porvenir, in TrujilloMonday night, January 6th. Around 8:30 p.m., at the intersection of Los Angeles and San Lucas streets, a plainclothes police officer shot a man in the head after a heated argument in the middle of a public street.

The victim, identified as Andrés Cueva Collantes, known as ‘El Verde’, was rushed to Hospital Víctor Lazarte Echegaray, where he is in critical condition, fighting for his life.

Neighbors in the area witnessed and recorded the violent attack. The videos show the agent approaching Cueva Collantes to reprimand him. The argument quickly escalated, culminating in a punch to the face by the police officer.

Immediately after that, the agent pulled out his gun and shot the victim in the head. After the shooting, the non-commissioned officer left the scene. Witnesses helped Cueva Collantes.

SIDPOL information identifies the agent as Ricardo Xavier Jiménez Castro, who, according to preliminary reports, was detained. Neighbors’ records will be crucial for the investigation and clarification of the facts.

The videos also reveal some of the verbal altercation before the shooting. The police officer is heard scolding Cueva Collantes for an alleged pending payment: “Since when do I have to pay you? That day you stopped in front of the garage to pass my car (and told me) give me your cooperation.”says the agent. Apparently, the argument started over a money issue. Witnesses say that Cueva Collantes worked as a porter in a market and would have asked the agent for money.

Neighbors helped the victim and later took up a collection to help with medical expenses.

THE POLICE WILL BE DISCHARGED

The Minister of the Interior, Juan José Santiváñez, confirmed his capture and strongly condemned the act, stressing that “this behavior will not be tolerated in the police establishment.”

“I understand that he has already been arrested. Procedures are being carried out. There is no esprit de corps. “He will be released and he will have to end up in prison.”said the minister.

The prosecution investigates the policeman for attempted murder

The Mixed Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of El Porvenir, in Trujillo, has launched a preliminary investigation against Police officer Ricardo Jiménez, who is currently on the run, for the alleged offense of qualified murder in the degree of attempt to harm the citizen Williams Cueva.

The investigation started immediately after the prosecution learned about the incident. The deputy prosecutor of the province, Denys Rivas, has ordered a series of procedures for clarifying the facts and obtaining the criminal record of the person under investigation. Also, he visited the victim, who is in the hospital, to check his health condition.

“It was also requested JUDICIARY to order the preliminary detention, control, unlocking and seizure of assets, as well as the prohibition of the person under investigation to leave the country; among other measures for clarifying the facts”said the statement.

These processes require the gathering of evidence and evidence that allows to determine the responsibility of the police officer in the alleged attempted murder.
