Congressman Alfredo Pariona (Socialist Group) introduced a constitutional reform bill to allow the extension of death penalty for serious crimes such as drug trafficking, corruption of public officials, extortion and rape of children and teenagers.
Pariona’s legislative proposal modifies Article 140 of the Constitution, which stipulates that the death penalty can only be applied to the crime of treason in cases of war and terrorism, in accordance with the laws and treaties to which Peru is a party.
In this sense, the bill adds a second paragraph to the aforementioned article of Magna Carta, which has the following text:
“The proven need to incorporate new crimes with the death penalty, especially those related to serious crimes such as drug trafficking, corruption of public officials, extortion and the integrity of children and adolescents, allows the Peruvian state to begin the reporting process . the relevant treaty”, it says.
