Good Band, the largest network of specialized volunteers in the worldwill carry out a Mega Screening in partnership with Colgate dental throughout Brazil a for low-income youth per day June 6, 2024. The action will be offered in more than 90 Brazilian cities, in all the states of the country, simultaneously. The activity aims to select children and adolescents aged between 11 and 17 years in vulnerable social situations and with signs of serious oral problems to receive free dental treatment with volunteer dentists of the NGO. It is expected that after the action, five thousand young people will be sent for dental treatment. Those selected will receive treatment and follow-up dental free until they turn 18.

This edition of the event, in particular, is part of the movement “Together against missing teeth”, an initiative promoted by Colgate. The leading brand in the oral hygiene market believes that everyone deserves a future with reasons to smile, therefore it has a constant commitment to the promotion of oral health, seeking to raise awareness of the panorama of Dental Deficiency, which is the lack of access to prevention and caries treatment. The still little talked about scenario is quite worrying, where 53.4% of children up to five years old have a tooth affected by cavities. This percentage of the population is even greater among young people between 15 and 19 years old, reaching 76.1%. This problem also extends into adulthood, as Brazilians reach old age without 79% of their teeth due to cavities..

“It excites me to see that there is a class of professionals who mobilize so much in favor of people who have serious oral problems and who do not have access to the tools to solve them. It’s work for the good of society”, declares Dr. Fábio Bibancos, volunteer president of Turma do Bem.

To participate, youth must be between 11 and 17 years old, accompanied by a guardian, and present ID and proof of residency. During the examinations, the volunteer dentist performs a non-invasive visual examination that verifies the condition of the teeth and fills in a form with data on the patient’s oral health and the socio-economic status of the family. Colgate will also be handing out oral hygiene kits at the show.

According to Adriana Anido, Vice President of Marketing at Colgate, this initiative is not just about dental care. “The ‘Together Against Missing Teeth’ movement is about health, self-esteem and above all awareness and education. By joining forces with Turma do Bem in this action, we can transform the lives of thousands of young people against cavities and all the problems that can appear when there is no adequate treatment. We strongly believe that everyone deserves to have a healthy smile with confidence and the opportunity to build a future with reasons to smile”, he emphasizes.

Cwith the partnership that began in 2021, Colgate sided with Turma do Bem on other occasions. Also, the company has carried out other actions in favor of local communities. Examples of this are the actions carried out through Colgate’s “Healthy Smile, Bright Future” program, which since 1994 has affected the lives of more than 20 million children in Brazil through educational materials and the distribution of oral hygiene kits for children, aiming to promote oral health education.

To participate, the public can enter the confirmed cities and address of each action in Official site of Mega Triagem. After the simultaneous examinations, the Turma do Bem team will send a letter of approval to the young people selected for free dental treatment with all the necessary information.
