To take precautions. National Meteorological and Hydrological Service (Senamhi) warned that ultraviolet radiation has reached extremely high levels in Peru.
This morning, at Air Rotary, Matt Nietoa Senamhi specialist, showed that the highest values of UV radiation were detected in the Peruvian mountains.
“According to the measurement carried out by Senamhi, it finds high or very high values in extremely highmainly in the Andean area, since values above 10 can be classified as extremely high. We are reaching, in the Andes area, values up to 17″, he warned.
“But the coast also has values that vary from the value of the index 8 to 15. Even in Metropolitan Lima“We have a zoning: in the districts of North and East Lima, the highest rates of ultraviolet radiation are reached, unlike the area of West Lima,” he explained.
Does UV radiation decrease when the day is cloudy?
Matt Nieto realized that the cloud cover over a city could “mitigate” ultraviolet radiationbut this does not mean that it is blocked and, therefore, ceases to be a danger to the population.
“Cloud cover can, in some way, moderate the amount of radiation that can affect a person, but even then the values are considered very high. Even with cloud cover, it’s important to protect yourself,” he commented.
In this regard, the specialist recommended that the population be protected from UV radiation, with the use of sunscreens, sunglasses, wide-brimmed hats and clothing that covers most of the body.
In addition, he suggested avoiding exposure to the sun during peak hours. UV radiationbetween 9:00 and 16:00
