The largest dental congress in Brazil, which takes place this month, will dedicate 35% of the area to stands focused on this area.
The number of dental surgeons specializing in facial aesthetics in the country increased from 866 professionals in January 2022 to 2,600 at the beginning of this year, representing an increase of 200% in two years. The data is from the Federal Council of Dentistry (CFO) and confirms the high growth of the market in this area, with the ever-increasing demand from patients.
Orofacial harmonization – the technical term for facial aesthetic procedures performed by dentists – is the official name of one of the newest specialties in dentistry, with authorization officially announced in 2019. Despite being new, the number of specialists has grown rapidly . To give you an idea, in the same period, from January 2022 to January 2024, implant dentistry recorded a 10.5% increase in the number of specialists and orthodontics increased by 5.7%.
Another factor that shows the growth in this field is the high participation of companies focused on the orofacial harmonization market in the International Congress of Dentistry in São Paulo (Ciosp), which is the largest event in this sector in Latin America and is expected to received 100 thousand. visitors in 2024. This year, the event runs until Saturday (27) at Expo Center Norte, in São Paulo, and will have 35% of the stand area dedicated to facial aesthetics equipment and supply companies.
“Two years ago, there was practically no stand in this sector at Ciosp. Therefore, this number serves as a thermometer for the market. We are very optimistic that this growth will be maintained or even exceeded in the coming years. This is a very promising field, in which dental surgeons began to work only after the pandemic. Professionals began to specialize in 2019, and the following year, COVID-19 began. So now we have more and more patients who are satisfied with their procedures and who recommend their friends and family to do the same with dental surgeons”, says Juliano do Vale, president of CFO.
The accreditation of the field of orofacial harmonization in dentistry is also reflected in the education sector. According to Tarley Pessoa de Barros, president of the Brazilian Society of Botulinum Toxin and Facial Implants in Dentistry (SBTI), about 150 specialization courses are held at the HOF per year in Brazil, with an average of 12 students per class. When the specialization was created, the greatest demand was for professionals over 40 years of age. However, currently 60% of students in these classes are recent graduates.
Data from the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (Isaps) shows that Brazil is the second largest market in the sector in the world, with 3 million cosmetic procedures in 2022, behind only the US – 7 million procedures – and ahead of Japan – 2.4 million – and Mexico – 1.7 million.
Non-Ciosp CFO

The space will also have a studio where CFO Esclarece’s podcast will be produced, which will record interviews on relevant topics covered at the event. In addition, the stand will house the CFO Arena, an open space for debates and panels on oral health, legislation, ethics, among other topics.
